Responsibilities

Summary/objective

The Data Engineer is responsible for building, optimizing and maintaining conceptual and logical database models and solutions to ensure company information is stored effectively and securely. The Data Engineer analyzes system requirements and implements migration methods for existing data. This position supports our software developers, database architects, data analysts and business stakeholders on data initiatives and will ensure a consistent, optimized data delivery architecture throughout all ongoing projects.

 

Essential functions

  • Create and maintain optimal data pipeline architecture
  • Assemble large, complex data sets that meet functional / non-functional business requirements
  • Identify, design, and implement internal process improvements, including automating manual processes, optimizing data delivery, re-designing infrastructure for greater scalability, etc.
  • Build and maintain the infrastructure required for optimal extraction, transformation, and loading of data from a wide variety of data sources using SQL and AWS ‘big data’ technologies
  • Build and utilize analytics tools that use the data pipeline to provide actionable insights into customer acquisition, operational efficiency, and other key business performance metrics
  • Work with stakeholders including the Executive, Product, Data and Design teams to assist with data-related technical issues and support their data infrastructure needs
  • Keep our data separated and secure across national boundaries through multiple data centers and AWS regions
  • Build processes supporting data transformation, data structures, metadata, dependency, and workload management
  • Create data tools for analytics and data scientist team members that assist them in building and optimizing our product into an innovative industry leader
  • Work with data and analytics experts to strive for greater functionality in our data systems
  • Perform root cause analysis on internal and external data and processes to answer specific business questions and identify opportunities for improvement

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong analytic skills related to working with unstructured datasets.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills.
  • Service-minded with an ability to work with cross-functional teams in a dynamic environment.
  • Knowledge of data security architecture and associated technology
  • Familiarity with predictive analysis and data visualization techniques using relevant tools (e.g. PowerBI, Python  and R.)

Physical demands

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time.
  • Extensive typing required.

Travel Requirements

  • Occasional travel to PRG locations

Required education and experience

  • Bachelor of Science or more advanced degree in Computer Science, Data Science or equivalent work experience
  • 3+ years of data engineering experience
  • Advanced working SQL knowledge and experience working with relational databases, query authoring (SQL) as well as working familiarity with a variety of databases.
  • Experience building and optimizing ‘big data’ data pipelines, architectures, and data sets.
  • High level of proficiency in procedural, object-oriented, and scripted programming languages such as PL/SQL, T-SQL, SnowSQL, Java, C#, C++, Perl and Python
  • Platforms including Microsoft Office 365, Microsoft Azure Cloud & Oracle (Exposure to Microsoft Dynamics and Oracle EBS an advantage)
  • Data platforms (Snowflake, SQL Server & Oracle), data warehousing and modern BI/analytics toolsets
  • Experience in Azure Data Factories and Data Lakes
  • Experience with data pipeline and workflow management tools: Fivetran, Azkaban, Airflow, etc.
  • Experience with AWS cloud services: S3, IAM, Transfer Service, EC2, EMR, RDS
  • Experience with stream-processing systems: Storm, Spark-Streaming, etc.

*The pay range for this position is estimated to be $100,000-$110,000. Actual salary to be determined by the experience, knowledge, skills and abilities of the applicant combined with location and alignment with market data.*
