An employee in this position has the responsibility of estimating scenic elements for all types of entertainment-oriented projects. This position is involved in all internal aspects of the sales cycle including preparing proposals, and distributing information to the estimation team, while acting as the liaison, when required, between the client and the estimation team. The work will involve client contact with an emphasis on distributing information about the shows to the bidding team, along with our subcontractors, tailored to the client’s vision. This employee may make or participate in the sale and may participate in the execution of projects generated by another salesperson or group. The Scenic Estimator position is responsible for delegating tasks, with the help of the Director of Sales & Estimating, between the Estimator, PM’s, engineering staff, and any other parties designated part of the bidding team.  The Scenic Estimator handles the administrative aspects of gathering information, Project startup, estimating, and working with the purchasing agent to keep pricing guides current. This employee will be assigned and directed by senior operations and/or Sales staff.  Related work as required. It is the policy of PRG to provide excellent customer service both internally and externally.  Employees are expected to perform all of their duties and responsibilities in accordance with this policy at all times. 


Essential functions 

  • All Project Startup tasks 
  • Distribute information about the projects to the bidding team 
  • Distribute information to our subcontractors for pricing 
  • Coordinate with the Director of Sales & Estimation to assign bidding tasks to personnel inside and outside the Sales & Estimation team.  
  • Estimate projects as required. 
  • Gather all bid information from the team and prepare for review by the Director of Sales & Estimating 
  • Create Project Proposals for Review by the Director of Projects. 
  • Work with the Purchasing Agent to keep the Pricing Guides up to date. 
  • Assist the Director of Sales & Estimation with the Sales Calendar 
  • Work with the Director of Sales & Estimating to create process improvements in the bidding process
  • Work with the Director of Sales & Estimating to track our competitors’ business.  


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities 

  • Good knowledge of the function and capability of the theater and entertainment industry.   
  • Good knowledge of current pricing and advancements in event and entertainment technology and the direction of equipment development. 
  • Good knowledge of modern office procedures and practices. 
  • Good knowledge of common computer productivity tools; such as Microsoft Office and Excel;   
  • Good persuasion skills; the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; the ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously within strict deadlines; the ability to learn, use and train other users in PRG proprietary software;

Physical demands 

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time.  
  • Must be able to occasionally move within the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.  
  • Must be able to lift 10-20 pounds (for example: packages, copy paper boxes, etc.)  
  • Must be able to communicate effectively by listening and in both written and verbal forms. 


Required education and experience 

  • Three or more years of experience in scenic construction or similar related field. 
  • Completion of two years of post-secondary education from an accredited institution of higher learning with a concentration in event construction, business administration, operations management or related fields.
